Over 1,000 candidates show interest in Automotive Apprenticeships

·

Apprenticeship Central has seen interest from over 1,000 candidates for apprenticeship roles across the automotive sector in recent months, proving that awareness and enthusiasm are building among young people considering careers in the industry.

The roles cover the full breadth of the sector, from technical positions like service and repair, through to customer facing, administrative, and support roles. This interest highlights that young people are open to a wide range of career paths within automotive, provided the opportunities are clear and accessible.

While the industry continues to face challenges around recruitment and retention, the level of engagement seen this year marks an encouraging shift.

Eleanor Baker Barnes, Commercial Director at Apprenticeship Central, said:

“We all know that the industry needs to do more to change perceptions and attract new talent. That work is far from over, but it’s encouraging to see this volume of interest and really positive to have so many young people actively choosing automotive as a career path.”

As we look to the future, the growing pool of motivated candidates highlights the importance of clear pathways, strong support structures, and employers willing to invest in the future workforce.

“It’s a busy and energising time,” added Baker Barnes. “The level of interest we’re seeing puts us in a unique position to support employers with access to a wide and diverse pipeline, and to help shape what the future of the industry looks like.”

The interest is there and now’s the time for the sector to harness it, take action, and create long-term solutions to the skills gap.
